Horse Supplies Nj
I need help with horses.?
So I live in New Egypt NJ and I want to buy a horse. So can you tell me how much everything will be, just not a trainer because I already know how to ride and I dont want to show or anything and the horse will stay at my house! I also need to know where I can get the supplies and how much it will be for me to put up my own fence for the horse! I know that a horse needs at least one acre!!!! So that is it!!!! Please please please help I want a horse more that pretty much anything (and I am not being dramatic)
Congrats! Well, how much are you willing to invest? A horse can be a VERY expensive habit! lol It’s good that you don’t have to pay for boarding somewhere but you will need to build a fence if you don’t already have one. That amount of expense will depend on you, do you want wood, vinyl or electric? Electric is the most inexpensive, when I first got my horse, I bought a $30 roll of wire, posts and connectors and I was up and running for less than $100 total. I didn’t have a barn or run in shed, but eventually friends helped me with that later and we built a basic shelter using donated wood and metal.
Don’t forget feed, that’s generally $8 a bag and my horse goes through a 40 lb. bag within a week 1/2 or two. Even though you have pasture, is it good quality? You may still have to buy hay, that expense will depend on whether you want round bales or square bales. (I love round bales in the pasture, square in the barn)
You will need to scan your local paper for hay dealers, also try checking the yellow pages for tack shops, they often have names of hay sellers and can point you in the right direction.
They can also help you with finding a farrier, that fee runs around $50 to $65 around here. If your horse’s feet are good then you may not need to shoe unless you’re going to be riding in rocky terrain.
Don’t be surprised, this is an expensive venture but SO worth it! There’s also misc. fees such as wormer, shots, fly spray and such.
Tack will be a large initial expense depending on what disicipline you ride.
And OF COURSE, THE HORSE! Lol, do you have your horse in mind? Make sure you get someone who knows horses VERY well and knows the market before just up and buying the first horse you come to. Making sure you get a 30 day guarrantee is a great way to make sure you aren’t stuck with a horse that’s not your match. Research, research and research before you buy and bring your horse home to make sure you have a safe environment for him and yourself.
